Latinos in Film

Share

After reading Agustin Gurza’s Sept. 21 column (“Out of the Picture”), as a Mexican American, I am appalled at his statement, “I always have the habit, though, of searching the credits at the end for Latino names.” My mother was born in Mexico and she married an Anglo man in Long Beach. My name would not show any “Latino” in it. Does this make me less of a Mexican American?

I was not aware that you can judge an industry (or anyone) based on something you glance at for a few seconds (i.e. movie credits). Lastly, do not try to compare the suffering of one group to another (i.e. Jews to other minorities). It is nearly impossible to make an intelligent correlation without upsetting (rightly so) many, many people.
