Jackpot.com to Try Its Luck Starting Today

Joining the increasingly crowded field of Web sites offering users free lottery and sweepstakes games, Pasadena-based high-tech incubator Idealab today is launching Jackpot.com, which will offer users chances at a $1-million sweepstakes every month.

The site integrates advertisers’ logos into an animated slot machine on users’ desktops. Users win chances to play by logging on to the site, allowing an advertising window to perch on their screens and taking numerous other interactive steps.

Jackpot.com joins such sites as LuckySurf.com and Iwin.com in trying to attract Web surfers by offering cash or free merchandise. Jackpot executives contend that what sets the site apart is that it places sponsors’ names and logos directly in the game, which they say will enhance users’ identification with the advertisers.

In addition to its $1-million monthly prize, Jackpot.com is offering visitors chances to win cars and other prizes, as well as a $2-million grand prize to be awarded several times a year.
