Re “Board Votes $1.5 Million to Fight Syphilis Outbreak,” April 12: Pardon me, what have I missed here? Gay men are reportedly better educated, higher paid and wealthier than the “average” population. Why is it necessary to spend my tax money to stop the spread of preventable (and curable) disease among a group that should know better? If these were heterosexual sex clubs and bathhouses, the vice squad would be there making arrests, not distributing condoms.
