Waves Lap the Field to Sweep West Coast Golf Tournaments

Pepperdine won the West Coast Conference championship in men’s and women’s golf Tuesday at Windsor Golf Club in Windsor, Calif.

The Waves took three of the top five positions in the men’s tournament, winning the WCC title for the second consecutive year and eighth time in 10 years. Pepperdine finished with a score of three-over-par 867, beating runner-up San Francisco by 21 strokes.

Michael Beard, Jason Allred and Bobby Rodger of Pepperdine each finished at two-over 218 for the 54-hole event to finish in a three-way tie for third place. They were four shots back of individual champion Fernando Gomez of USF and two shots behind runner-up Drew Corwin of Santa Clara.

Beard and Allred each recorded a tournament-best round of five-under 67.

The Waves captured four of the top six positions in the women’s tournament, winning the conference title for the third consecutive year and finishing 24 strokes ahead of runner-up San Francisco.

Lindsay Wright of Pepperdine, from Victoria, Australia, won the individual title at 147 in the rain-shortened 36-hole tournament.

Tamie Durdin of North Adelaide, Australia, was second at 152 and Katherine Hull of Queensland, Australia, placed third at 154 for the Waves. Lisa Chang of Pepperdine was sixth at 160.

BOYS’ GOLF

Tri-Valley League Match No. 4--Oak Park extended its lead in the team standings and the Eagles’ James Logeman closed in on first-place Tommy Hajduk of Nordhoff in the individual standings in a match at Sterling Hills Golf Club in Camarillo.

Oak Park shot a 383 to defeat defending league champion Nordhoff by eight strokes and take a 1,529-1,559 lead over the Rangers with two matches remaining.

Logeman earned medalist honors with a one-over-par 72 while Hajduk shot a 74. Hajduk has a 293-296 lead over Logeman in the individual standings.

Camarillo 386, Hueneme 480--Jordan Silvertrust shot even-par 71 to lead the Spartans to victory in the Pacific View League match at Construction Battalion Golf Course in Port Hueneme.

Camarillo (17-0, 7-0 in league play) clinched the Pacific View title.

Notre Dame 209, Crespi 221--Danny Barber shot a five-over-par 40 and the Knights (13-2, 10-1) moved to within one victory of clinching a share of the Mission League title at Lakeside Golf Club in Toluca Lake.

David Naish fired a four-over 39 to earn medalist honors for the Celts (2-14, 0-11).

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Hoover 4, Glendale 3--Evelyn Crowder singled home Daisy Barcena from second base in the 11th inning to give Hoover a Pacific League victory at Hoover.

Glendale (7-6, 2-1) scored three runs in the seventh inning off of Cori Herbert (6-7) on three singles, two errors and a hit batter to tie the game.

Herbert pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks.

Rosa Diaz hit a two-run single in the fourth inning to give Hoover (6-7, 1-2) a 3-0 lead.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Rio Mesa 90, Westlake 86--Trevor Owens and Nick Glaze each won two individual events to help the Spartans to victory in the nonleague meet at Newbury Park High.

Owens won the 100 freestyle in 51.18, the 200 freestyle in 1:54.78 and swam on teams that won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.67 and the 400 freestyle relay in 3:32.95.

Glaze placed first in the 500 freestyle in 5:11.12 and in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.93. He swam on the winning 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams for the Spartans (8-1).
