The City Council failed to reach a decision Tuesday on whether to pay Communications Support Group Inc. as much as $15,000 to help with the transfer of Placentia’s cable franchise.

Adelphia Communications Corp. will be taking over the local franchise from Comcast Cablevision. The company Communications Support Group is now helping the city of Fullerton with its franchise transfer to Adelphia, which is swapping coverage areas with Comcast Cablevision.

Council members voted 2 to 2 on the issue, with Mayor Michael L. Maertzweiler absent. Councilwoman Maria Moreno opposed the measure, saying she didn’t understand why the services of the company were necessary. City Administrator Robert D’Amato said the company could help protect the interests of Placentia consumers.
