MCI WorldCom Inc. declined comment on a report that it is mulling a potential bid for British wireless carrier Orange in a deal that could top $40 billion. The company has hired investment banker Salomon Smith Barney to advise it on a possible offer, according to a report in USA Today. A spokesperson for Salomon could not be immediately reached for comment.
