Kingston Spinning Off Division for Data Storage Containment

Share

Hoping to bring new brand identification to its data storage products, Kingston Technology Co. said it is creating a new company next month out of a division that makes cases for computer data storage.

The new company, StorCase Technology Inc., will be headed by Dieter Paul, who has been with the Fountain Valley company’s data storage division since its inception 12 years ago.

StorCase will remain a wholly owned subsidiary of privately held Kingston, the world’s largest memory product manufacturer.

The storage products are removable metal cases in which large quantities of electronic data can be moved from one terminal to another or locked away for safekeeping.

Though the Kingston name has opened a lot of doors for the storage division, Paul said the division wants to emerge from under the Kingston umbrella. Being separate, it will have its own staff and expects to bring products to market more quickly.

Paul said he hopes the division, with 101 employees, will move out of the Kingston facility in the next 18 months to a building nearby. The new name will take effect June 1.
