L.A.’s Homeless

* Re “Skip Party, Spend Money on Homeless,” Voices, July 29: Thank you, Michael Rives, for shining a light of sanity on the factual circumstances of the homeless situation in Los Angeles. Perhaps it is time for compassionate reality to be recognized by our leaders and those who want to lead in the future. It is well past time to put their money where their mouths are and do the right thing. Are you listening, Mr. and Mrs. Gore?

When one notices people living in misery in their vans or beggars seeking help from travelers or people with mental health problems roaming about on the streets of L.A., and when one thinks of the wealth the city enjoys, is it not hard to understand why concerted efforts are not being made to address this malady?
