Evacuation Lifted as Storm Dissipates
With storm Debby turning into a dud, at least for South Florida, officials invited tourists back to the Florida Keys. The mandatory evacuation order issued for all visitors was lifted at 9 a.m. Thursday, after Debby weakened and began heading south of Cuba instead of taking aim at the island chain. A state of emergency was also lifted. Forecasters said Debby, with its strongest sustained winds down to 40 mph, could weaken further as it crosses over Cuba. But another possibility is that it could regenerate when it emerges off western Cuba.
