‘Queer’ Attitude

I am appalled at Howard Rosenberg’s review of “Queer as Folk” (“Times Are A-Changing for Gay TV,” Aug. 21). One of the most widely believed gay stereotypes is that all gay men are pedophiles. Pedophilia is also one of the main contributing factors to homophobia.

Assuming that Rosenberg’s facts are correct, 15-year-old Nathan is seduced by twentysomething Stuart. Regardless of the commendable attributes of the show, one cannot even suggest that it is watchable if it contains adults seducing minors!

I am gay and in no way a prude, but I do not seduce minors. The situation on “Queer as Folk” is going to give even more justification to the Dr. Laura Schlessingers of the world who seem to believe that gay men are the only seducers of young boys.

Ellen Degeneres did not “tiptoe” out of the closet. Ellen came out screaming with Anne Heche that she was a lesbian, and we all had to like it. Further, she turned her TV show into an infomercial for the lesbian lifestyle, and we all had to like that too. Trouble is, it wasn’t funny anymore, and that is what killed her show.
