While Alanis Morissette announced that she expects to start work on her next album soon and will produce it herself, she hasn’t ruled out involvement from Glen Ballard, who co-wrote and produced most of both “Jagged Little Pill” and “Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie.” A spokesman for the performer says specific plans haven’t been made for the sessions and the door is open to Ballard’s participation. . . .

Sixpence None the Richer singer Leigh Nash is making her solo debut singing “I Need to Be Next to You,” the end-title song for the film “Bounce,” starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Affleck and opening Oct. 20. The track was produced by Matt Serletic (Matchbox Twenty, Santana’s “Smooth”). But due to Nash’s concern that fans will think she’s left the band, her official credit for the new song will read “Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer.” . . .

If you want to have yourself a Southern-rock Christmas this year, Lynyrd Skynyrd has made an album of seasonal standards and originals titled “Christmas Time Again,” with guest appearances by the Charlie Daniels Band and .38 Special. The album will be in stores in October and there are discussions underway about a related TV special. . . .

All five members of the Cars got together for the first time in 13 years recently, not to play music, but for an interview that will be a bonus on the DVD version of “Cars Live.” The 1979 concert, recorded for German TV during their only European tour, is due from Rhino Home Video on Oct. 24. . . .

The Call, whose “Let the Day Begin” has become Al Gore’s presidential campaign theme song, is releasing “Live Under the Red Moon,” a CD recorded on the band’s last tour in 1989. With the album due in November, a brief reunion tour is being planned for early 2001. Meanwhile, Call singer Michael Been’s son Robert Turner is fronting the L.A. band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, whose debut is due from Virgin Records in 2001. . . .

Continuing his recent career as a club DJ, Boy George is mixing a set for the third release of the “Essential” series of DJ collections. Due Nov. 7 in the U.S., it follows “Essential” releases from a pairing of Fatboy Slim and Paul Oakenfold and a brand-new set from DJ Icey. . . .

New Orleans band the Radiators has signed with Capricorn Records and is in Trent Reznor’s Nothing Studios recording with producer Jim Gaines, who engineered Santana’s “Supernatural.” The Radiators’ album is due early next year.
