Parade, Concert to Protest Gun Violence, Hate Crimes
A parade will be held Sunday, followed by a daylong concert at Woodley Park to call attention to gun violence and hate crimes.
“It’s a way for the whole community to come together and make their voice known. Everyone has a right to live peacefully on this earth,” said the Rev. Alford J. Lewis, publicity director for Redeemed From Alcohol and Drugs, which is organizing the event.
The group, which is affiliated with North Hollywood-based Living for Christ Ministries, provides remedial education, literacy programs and conflict resolution training, said Lewis’ wife, Kaye M. Lewis, who serves as its executive director.
High school marching bands, drill teams, classic cars and antique fire engines, in addition to military and law enforcement personnel, are scheduled to participate in the parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Victory and Balboa boulevards. The parade will proceed east on Victory Boulevard, turning south on Woodley Avenue until it reaches Woodley Park.
A free concert featuring jazz, reggae and gospel music is planned from noon to 7:30 p.m. at the park.
