City May Prohibit Street Discharges

Share

The City Council will consider at its meeting Monday introducing a new ordinance that will prohibit discharging pollutants and other material on public streets and property and assign a fine for violations.

City Manager Dan Joseph said the new ordinance is essentially a preemptive measure that attempts to address the problem of residents and businesses discharging pollutants into the streets and sewers. The ordinance is part of the city’s effort to deal with urban runoff and improve the water quality of local creeks, Joseph said.

Joseph said that if the council approves the ordinance, the city will also develop a dollar amount for fines issued to individuals or businesses who violate the new ordinance.
