Avalanches Strand Dozens, Kill 1
From Times Wire Reports
Dozens of travelers were stranded for a third day by multiple avalanches that blocked sections of a highway near Anchorage and killed one worker helping to clear the road. The 60 to 80 travelers were in Girdwood, a ski resort community where about 10 feet of snow has piled up this week. People in the town are running short of food, Girdwood’s fire chief said. The avalanches have dumped snow across several sections of the Seward Highway, the sole road running south from Anchorage.
