Props. 30, 31

Share

Supporters of the “Fair Insurance Responsibility Act” have been running television commercials that have completely convinced me to vote against Props. 30 and 31. They ask viewers who should be responsible in the case of an accident. Logically, the driver who caused the accident, but these commercials say the insurance companies are responsible. I thought that we lived in a society where people were responsible for their actions, but now these commercials are telling me I’m wrong.

This seems odd, but not as odd as how the increased cost of insurance will be good for all Californians. You buy car insurance so that in case of an accident, the insurance company will pay any costs you are liable for, up to the limit of your policy. If we are going to have everyone suing each other’s insurance companies, we should do away with different types of and amounts of insurance. We could all pay a flat $10,000, which would about cover the increased cost. Who wins under 30 and 31? Personal injury lawyers and no one else.
