Lockheed Still No. 1 Pentagon Contractor

Lockheed Martin Corp. is the No. 1 U.S. defense contractor for the fifth straight year, receiving $12.7 billion in fiscal 1999 prime contracts, according to a new Defense Department ranking of the nation’s top 100 contractors. Boeing Co. was second for the third consecutive year, with $11.6 billion in prime contracts. Also retaining the same positions as in last year were Raytheon Co., No. 3, with $6.4 billion in prime contracts; General Dynamics Corp., No. 4, with $4.6 billion; Northrop Grumman Corp., No. 5, with $3.2 billion; and United Technologies Corp., No. 6, with $2.4 billion. Litton Industries advanced a notch to No. 7, with $2.1 billion in contracts. General Electric made the biggest jump, to No. 8 from No. 13, with $1.7 billion. TRW Inc. rose one notch to No. 9 on $1.4 billion in prime contracts. Textron Inc. fell to No. 10 from No. 7, receiving $1.4 billion, the only company in the top 10 with a decline in contracts from fiscal 1998.
