Death Penalty

Re “Brave Look at the Death Penalty,” editorial, Feb. 14: The state of California is a faceless, remorseless serial killer. The state keeps its victims in a cage for years and taunts them with the possibility of escape. Then on an appointed day at midnight the state removes the prisoner from the cage and performs a killing with all of the trappings of a ceremony.

If the state or any of its spokesmen is asked about this fact they usually respond that “the victim brought it all on themselves.” As all serial killers do, the state keeps count and proudly compares its record with other serial killers (states). If you performed a psychological profile on this killer he/she would look just like you or me.

Brave look at the death penalty indeed.
