The city’s Planning Commission has unanimously elected veteran commissioner Dave Carter to serve as chairman for a one-year term.

Commissioner Joe Hernandez, who led the commission in 1999, handed over the chairman’s gavel to Carter on Thursday.

Carter has served on the commission for six years.

“Being vice chairman last year, I thought it was time to step up,” Carter said. “We’ve had such leadership on the commission for the last couple of years, and I aspired to be part of that.”
