Dozens of students from Newport Harbor High School gathered this weekend to help plant more than 350 native trees and shrubs on a 2- to 3-acre site in Fairview Park. And they plan to do it again after they receive their second shipment of plants. The weekend planting sessions are part of a restoration project that began five years ago when the Fairview Park Citizen’s Advisory Committee and the California Native Plant Society created a pilot restoration program on a quarter-acre lot of the park. In all, 770 plants will be introduced into the area.
