Printing Press, Phony Immigration Cards Seized

Share

A printing press and thousands of phony documents were seized by Immigration and Naturalization Service agents Friday night at a self-storage facility near MacArthur Park, officials said.

The raid at a building near 6th and Carondelet streets began about 7:30 p.m.

The manager of the building, James Stewart, told reporters that the documents included a number of forged “green card” working permits and the equipment used to print them.

Stewart said immigration agents told him that the forged documents often are sold on the street for as much as $100 apiece.

The manager said he did not know the documents and printing press were in the storage facility, and he said he had no idea who had left them there.

INS officials declined to comment on the raid.
