UC Irvine Women Use Late Run to Defeat Pacific

Megan Stafford had 14 points, six assists and five steals to help UC Irvine to a 62-58 victory over Pacific in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Irvine.

The Anteaters led, 25-23, at the half, and used a 13-2 run late in the game to seal the victory.

Kirsten Cappel had 11 rebounds and eight points for Irvine (10-8, 3-3).

Selena Ho had 17 points for Pacific (11-6, 2-3).

In another Big West Conference game:

Long Beach State 91, CS Fullerton 70--The teams were tied, 46-46, at the half but Fullerton was limited to 24 points in the second half. Rhonda Smith scored 27 points and Reta Sula added 25 for Long Beach (10-7, 4-1). Erin Whiteside had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Fullerton (2-16, 1-5).

In the Golden State Athletic Conference:

Fresno Pacific 62, Concordia 60--Erika Bargas made two free throws with one second remaining to give host Fresno Pacific (10-12, 6-3) a come-from-behind upset victory.

Jamie Gast scored 20 points for Concordia (17-5, 6-3).

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Vanguard 85, Hope International 64--Becki Huddle had 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead Vanguard at the Brea Community Center. Teammate Beth Weidler added 17 points.

Jamie Harrison had 15 points, Denise Silva and Holly Limpach had 14 each, and Holly Goodridge added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Hope International.

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:

Concordia 87, Fresno Pacific 67--Josh Giles had 16 points and Joel Burgess and Harold Hofman added 15 each for visiting Concordia (12-8, 4-5). Uly Sanchez scored 20 points for Fresno Pacific (10-13, 1-8).

Vanguard 69, Hope International 57--Dennis Keane scored 23 points, including five three-pointers, for visiting Vanguard. Axel Margaritha had 26 points and 15 rebounds for Hope International.
