Sour cherries are available for the pickin’ in the Leona Valley. The cherries, which are good for cooking and making pies, should be available for the next couple of weeks, according to the Leona Valley Cherry Growers Assn. The Leona Valley is located about 10 miles west of Palmdale.

To reach the valley, take the 5 Freeway north from Los Angeles and head north on the 14 Freeway. Exit at Palmdale Boulevard and go left, heading west 10 miles. Once in the valley, watch for signs directing you to the cherry farms.

For more information, contact the Leona Valley Cherry Growers hotline, (661) 266-7116, or log onto the Web site at https://www.cherriesupic.com. The Web site also features a map of cherry orchards.
