* Re “Trucking Reforms Steer Straight Into Backlash,” July 3:

The number of accidents caused by trucks is very small compared with the total number of traffic accidents each year. The number of deaths that occur in truck-involved accidents is large by virtue of the fact that trucks are larger. Your story left out the fact that the vast majority of truck-related accidents are caused by car drivers who have no regard for the rules of the road and only care for themselves. The proposed regulations have been drawn up by people who have never driven anything larger than an SUV. Does this give them the expertise to dictate?
