Government Claims Rebel Base Captured

Philippine troops have captured the headquarters of the country’s largest Muslim rebel group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, after encountering little resistance, President Joseph Estrada said. The seizure would be a major blow to the MILF, which has been fighting for an independent Islamic nation in the southern Philippines. A rebel spokesman acknowledged that troops had penetrated Camp Abubakar but said they controlled less than 10% of it.
