The El Dorado High School Band is set to leave for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. The traveling group will consist of 172 students, 16 parents and four staff members. PTA members and students have raised about $30,000 so far, said Richard Watson. It will cost $516,000 for all the students to make the trip, $3,000 per student.

Parents are footing the bill, said Lois Monroe, fund-raising chairman. All final payments for the trip were made on June 15, she said. The group will leave for Australia on Aug. 31.

The band will perform with 2,000 members of the Millennium Band at the Olympics opening ceremony.
