From Times Wire Reports

Syrian voters endorsed Bashar Assad as their new president, giving him 97.29% of the vote in a referendum, the Interior Ministry said. Parliament endorsed the outcome of Monday’s one-candidate vote and set July 17 as the date for Bashar to officially start his term. Officials said that only 22,439 voters--0.25%--had opposed Bashar. The rest of the votes against him were invalidated.
