Chilcote Leaves Avengers Before Finale in Buffalo

Avenger fullback/linebacker Andy Chilcote has decided to leave the team after being told he would not play Friday at Buffalo.

Chilcote said he was pulled from Wednesday’s practice with the starting unit by Coach Stan Brock and told he was not going to play Friday. Chilcote refused to work with the scout team and left the field.

Chilcote said that once he completes his exit physical, he will return to La Crosse, Wis., to be with his fiancee Stacy and their 14-month-old daughter Zoey.

“As far as I’m concerned, I can’t see staying around here anymore if I’m not playing,” said Chilcote, who met with Brock after practice at West Los Angeles College. “And the probabilities of the team making the playoffs are decent but not enough to keep me here.

“[Brock] didn’t offer to have me go to Buffalo. I guess I didn’t do what he thought was appropriate after he pulled me out of the practice.”

Brock--preparing the team for its final regular-season game--said he did not feel that Chilcote, who sat out three games because of a knee injury, was among the 20 players he wanted to take.

“You can only take 20 guys [from the 24-man roster], so that means four don’t get to travel,” Brock said. “He’s been beat up, and I feel I have to take a different guy for us to compete.”

Chilcote, 29, who has been in the Arena Football League for six years, played in 10 games for the Avengers this season. He rushed 23 times for 95 yards and scored three touchdowns.
