Blast Destroys Church in Kosovo

An explosion ripped through a medieval Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo, flattening the structure, United Nations police said. The Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah was in the village of Pomazetin, just outside the Serbian town of Kosovo Polje. Two people were seen running from the site shortly after the explosion Sunday night, officials said. Authorities said the church had already been severely damaged during the war between ethnic Albanian separatists and the forces of Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic. Kosovo is a province of Serbia, Yugoslavia’s dominant republic.
