40 People Trapped in Truck Are Rescued
Authorities rescued a group of 40 Guatemalans trapped inside a truck-trailer near the capital of Tabasco state, Villahermosa, in blistering heat for more than 10 hours. Seven were listed in serious condition at a nearby hospital. The group was buried among sacks of corn inside the trailer before one of the Central Americans broke open the doors of the truck, which had been left abandoned on a highway near the Guatemalan border. State police found the immigrants lying on the roadside, some unconscious, and nearly all severely dehydrated, Red Cross officials said.
