Corporate Olympics

I gather from “Inside IOC’s Books: A Tangled Web of Wealth, Mystery” (July 23) that modern Olympic athletes essentially work for large multinational corporations that basically appropriate (i.e. purchase) a well-recognized body of events and symbols in order to hawk their soft drinks, shoes, etc. In turn, these corporations should also be required to reimburse taxpaying citizens for the use of their national symbols, which should be copyrighted like everything else of value in this country. Fair is fair.
