The Pentagon would get $20 billion more next year, including a 3.7% military pay increase, under a $288-billion Pentagon spending bill that Congress sent to President Clinton on Thursday.

The Senate passed the bill on a 90-10 vote.

The House passed the compromise bill last week and Clinton is expected to sign it, even though it is $3.3 billion more than he requested.

In addition to the pay raise, the bill includes a 9% increase in funds for military health care.
