Paul A. Jorgensen; Writer, Editor Was Shakespeare Scholar at UCLA

Paul A. Jorgensen, 84, internationally known Shakespeare scholar who had a 34-year career in UCLA’s English department. The author or editor of 11 major books and numerous critical articles on the Bard’s works, Jorgensen also served as an officer of the Shakespeare Assn. of America, chairman of the Modern Language Assn.’s Shakespeare Section and member of the editorial boards of the University of California Press, Film Quarterly and the Huntington Library Quarterly. Born in Solvang, Calif., Jorgensen was educated at UC Berkeley before joining the UCLA faculty in 1947. He retired in 1981. The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to the UCLA Foundation/Paul and Virginia Jorgensen Fellowship, #5716, c/o Department of English, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1530. On June 16 in Los Angeles of respiratory complications.
