Bomb Kills Five in Pro-Israel Militia
Guerrillas with a roadside bomb killed five pro-Israel militiamen on patrol in an occupied zone of southern Lebanon, escalating tensions on the last active Arab-Israeli war front, Lebanese security officials said. They said the bomb exploded in a patrol of the South Lebanon Army, a 2,500-member militia armed and paid by Israel to help its army guard against cross-border guerrilla attacks. No guerrilla group claimed responsibility. Immediately after the attack, Israeli artillery opened fire on suspected guerrilla positions across the front line, the security officials said. There was no immediate word on casualties.
