Tijuana Slaying
Your Feb. 28 front-page photograph and story about the slaying of the Tijuana police chief was quite telling. For a country with the strictest of gun controls, guess who always has them? Criminal gangs. All such controls do is disarm law-abiding citizens, leaving them defenseless against street thugs and other criminals.
And for a country whose lawmakers and president take offense at the slightest criticism from the U.S. about drug trafficking, the evidence says otherwise. One can only conclude that Mexico is about as corrupt a narco-democracy as exists in this hemisphere.
