Pentagon Erred in Withholding Tripp Letter, Judge Says

A federal judge ruled this week that the Pentagon should have turned over a letter that referred to confidential information about Linda Tripp.

U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth said “the court is mind-boggled” that the Pentagon maintains it was not required to surrender the letter for a lawsuit filed by a conservative group, Judicial Watch.

The letter details how the Pentagon in 1998 improperly provided reporters with information from Tripp’s personnel file in which she incorrectly stated that she had never been arrested. In fact, Tripp was arrested in 1969 for grand larceny, then freed on a reduced charge of loitering.
