Council members voted this week to raise the lighting fee allowance for local youth sports organizations from $1,000 to $2,000 a year.

The Placentia Little League, Placentia Pony Baseball, Placentia-Yorba Linda Girls Softball and Junior United Soccer Assn. pay to use the city’s athletic facilities and have received an allowance to supplement those costs. Council members said that by increasing the allowance, the nonprofit organizations will have more money to spend on uniforms and equipment for children. “This is a good place to spend money,” said Councilwoman Constance Underhill.

The increased allowances, approved Tuesday, will take effect immediately.
