SBC in Broadband Deal With Newhall

SBC Communications Inc., which owns local phone company Pacific Bell, plans to install broadband communications connections in the new residential and commercial developments planned by Newhall Land & Farming Co. The deal, which must still be finalized, would give SBC access to more than 30,000 homes Newhall Ranch plans to build in Valencia and its Newhall Ranch project. In addition, Pacific Bell would deliver high-speed Internet service to existing Newhall developments on a priority basis. All new commercial buildings would also be wired to connect directly into fiber-optic cable systems, which are capable of carrying large volumes of information at high speeds.
