Booth Wins Lopez Award as Outstanding Amateur

Kellee Booth has been named the inaugural winner of the Nancy Lopez Award, which will be given to the world’s outstanding female amateur golfer.

Booth, a former standout at Santa Margarita High, was the top-ranked amateur in 1999. She won four events and was a semifinalist in the U.S. Women’s Amateur, and now plays on the LPGA Tour.

Ashley Clift, who helped lead El Modena to the Century League title and the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division III playoffs, will play center midfield for Columbia, the university’s sports information department announced Wednesday.

Clift, who plans to study pre-med at Columbia, scored 48 goals and had 39 assists in her high school career. She was a two-time All-Century League first-team selection and a second-team Times’ Orange County pick her sophomore year.
