14 Injured in Fire at Residential Hotel
An early morning fire at a four-story residential hotel in Highland Park, Mich., injured more than a dozen people. There were conflicting reports on whether there were any fatalities. Fourteen people were treated at two Detroit hospitals; seven of them remained hospitalized. At least two were injured when they jumped from windows, while others suffered from burns and smoke inhalation. Chief Ronald Parham said investigators believe the fire began when a woman accidentally knocked over a burning candle in the 80-unit, 100-resident building. Highland Park, an impoverished city of about 25,000, was the headquarters of Chrysler Corp. before the company moved to Auburn Hills.
