* Please note that your March 20 article, “Sensitive Ground Awaits Pope on Holy Land Visit,” repeatedly characterized the Israeli Jewish attitude toward the pope’s visit as negative, contradicting recent polls that show the opposite. Thus, while your article says, “Attitudes among Israeli Jews range from anger to ambivalence to apathy,” a new poll conducted by Gallup for the Inter-religious Coordinating Council in Israel on March 5 found that the overwhelming majority of the adult Jewish Israeli population harbors a very positive attitude toward the pope’s visit.
Specifically, the survey revealed that nearly 60% of Israelis view the pope’s visit as positive, and only 12% view it negatively.
