Pipe Flushing May Discolor Water

Share

Water in Ventura households may look a little rusty during April as the city flushes out its pipes.

Water Division crews will be cleaning water mains on evenings between April 2 and 27, an annual maintenance activity that involves opening fire hydrants and flushing the lines.

Cleaning water mains helps keep the pipes free of bacteria and helps water circulation, officials said.

During the cleaning, typically between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., tap water may have air bubbles or particles that look like rust. The condition should subside in a couple of hours, but if it persists after a day or two, residents may call the Water Division.

The water is safe to use, officials said.
