Guarded About Supervisors

Share

Re “Plan Would Steer Money to Private Hospitals,” March 24.

This article quotes Supervisors John K. Flynn and Frank Schillo referring to Community Memorial Hospital Executive Director Michael D. Bakst as a “train robber” and a “black heart” for his concern about the disposition of the tobacco settlement windfall.

It should be remembered that Flynn and Schillo were members of the Board of Supervisors that (for years) diverted all assessment money from business owners at Channel Islands Harbor to Ventura County Parks and Recreation. That assessment was supposed to be used for the betterment of the harbor and all can see what has happened to that poor harbor as a result of that diversion.

I’m not a dedicated booster of Bakst but I certainly understand his concern about Flynn and Schillo.
