Kids’ Courtroom Visit Misjudged

Share

* Re “Students Bring a Little Disorder to Courtroom,” May 10:

The article that was written regarding my class coming to court was, by and large, well done.

However, the children were swiveling in the seats, but not wildly. The children were invited, by the judge, to sit in the jury box, by his bench, and in the seats usually used by counsel.

They neither climbed over desks, across desks, nor had sticky hands while sitting in these areas.

The judge was so pleased with the experience that he wants to continue it on a yearly basis. I’m sure that if the children’s behavior was not appropriate the invitation would not have been extended.
