The official election organizer in Peru said Wednesday that vote-counting computers passed a test seen as key to bringing credibility to Sunday’s presidential runoff, overshadowed by fraud concerns and an opposition boycott.

But monitors with the Organization of American States, or OAS, have not yet reported on the test. Their approval is crucial because they have said they will withdraw backing for Sunday’s vote if the test fails, in effect stripping international legitimacy from the election.
