Before Christopher Guest let the dogs out with “Best in Show,” he left no doubt as to whether he was a mod or rocker (like Ringo, he’s definitely a mocker). The New Beverly Cinema unleashes a Guest double with the drummer-deprived heavy-metal band members of Spinal Tap banging their collective heads in Rob Reiner’s mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap” (1984) and Guest’s feature directing debut “Waiting for Guffman” (1996), a sendup of small-town theatricals. Michael McKean and Harry Shearer co-star in “Tap,” Eugene Levy, Fred Willard, Catherine O’Hara and Parker Posey join Guest’s ensemble in “Guffman.”

Noted jazz pianist David Benoit will present a musical tribute to Charles M. Schulz in “Here’s to You, Charlie Brown!--50 Great Years.” The multimedia concert will feature the music of Vince Guaraldi, the composer of the music for the “Peanuts” TV specials, as well as other composers, songs from the TV and stage shows, plus film clips of Charlie Brown, Linus, Snoopy and the rest of the gang. Benoit, a longtime “Peanuts” fan who scored several of the TV specials, will be joined by bassist Dean Taba, drummer Jeff Olson, sax man Andy Suzuki and guitarist Mark Antoine, singer Leslie Smith and a children’s choir. Another highlight will be Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s mini classical piano concerto, “Peanuts Gallery,” in which each movement is based on one of the comic strip’s characters.

The restoration of a 26-acre freshwater marsh at the Ballona Wetlands in Playa Del Rey is celebrated during Ballona Fest 2000. Eco exhibits and wetland tours will be available to visitors. Back when he was a public school teacher in New York City, you could probably hear Frank McCourt lecture for free. Now, it’ll cost you. The difference is four years and two best-selling autobiographical books. “Angela’s Ashes,” the heartbreaking yet funny tale of growing up desperately poor in Ireland, won the Pulitzer Prize and was adapted into a feature film. “ ‘Tis: A Memoir,” McCourt’s best-selling follow-up, traced his early years in the United States.
