SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A woman with Alzheimer’s disease who disappeared from a relative’s Westminster home 10 days ago has been found at an airport in Kansas City, Mo., police said.

Doris Goodwin’s journey began the afternoon of Oct. 22 when she drove away from her brother-in-law’s home in Westminster with $100 in a Chevrolet Corsica belonging to Goodwin and her husband. Family members said they thought Goodwin, 64, was going to the grocery store.

Instead, Goodwin vanished for days. She was spotted last week at a medical clinic in Riverside. She asked clinic employees where she could buy a ticket to Grand Junction, Colo., where she has friends. The employees were concerned about Goodwin and called police, but she left before authorities arrived.

Westminster police said Goodwin drove to Sacramento and got on a plane to Denver. From there, she flew to Wichita, Kan., and then to Kansas City.

Kansas City International Airport police detained Goodwin after recognizing her as a missing person, Westminster Police Officer Robin Kapp said.

Goodwin’s car was found at Sacramento International Airport, Kapp said. Goodwin’s family could not be reached Wednesday.

“Of course we’re delighted, we’re very happy [that she was found],” said Larry Goodwin, a brother-in-law. “She’s perfectly all right now.”
