Gordon Gilkey; Museum Curator, Print Expert and Collector

Gordon Gilkey, 88, curator of the Portland Art Museum’s prints and drawings collection. Gilkey founded the museum’s Vivian Center for the Graphic Arts and was considered one of Oregon’s leading cultural experts. During World War II, he advised the Army Air Corps on monuments in Europe that should be spared from bombing, and he was one of the first to return art stolen by the Nazis. In addition to teaching art at Oregon State University, he amassed a personal collection of 14,000 prints, including works by such artists as Rembrandt, Goya and Picasso. On Saturday in Portland.
