Man Who Abducted Tot Found Dead in Prison
A man who pleaded guilty to kidnapping a 3-year-old neighbor girl and imprisoning her in an attic was found dead in his prison cell, authorities said Tuesday.
It appeared that Jason E. Wagner, 25, was strangled, and a suspect was being questioned, authorities said. He was found dead about midnight Monday at the Warren Correctional Institution.
He was convicted of taking Ashley Taggart from her frontyard in this community in April 1999. Volunteers searched for four days before police found the girl, bound with duct tape, in the attic in Wagner’s house, about 100 yards from her home.
