Pierre Trudeau
* Pierre Trudeau was Canada’s true patriot son (obituary, Sept. 29). When he became leader of the world’s second-largest country in 1968 (ironically, “Kanada” is an Iroquois word meaning “small village”), he brought vision, style and energy to America’s giant northern neighbor. By promoting dialogue between the provincial and federal governments and containing the Quebec separatist movement, he kept our vast dominion intact. As a native son, born in Quebec, I say thank you and au revoir, Pierre. May God keep Canada glorious and free.
