* Advertiser-supported Internet access provider NetZero Inc. of Westlake Village has agreed to acquire certain assets of FreeI Networks Inc., the operator of Freeinternet.com, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy court protection. Terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed. Earlier this week, FreeI withdrew its $172.5-million initial public offering, citing current market conditions. The company reported a net loss of $18.7 million on revenue of $983,000 in 1999.

* Shares of Marimba Inc. lost half their value a day after the Internet-based software company warned of lower-than-expected revenue and a greater-than-expected loss in the third quarter. The Mountain View, Calif., company’s stock tumbled $5.50, or 50%, to $5.63 on Nasdaq.

* The International Trade Commission said it would investigate allegations that South Korea’s Hyundai Electronics Industries Co. infringed on a U.S. rival’s computer memory chip patents. Santa Clara, Calif.-based Rambus Inc. has asked the commission to issue a permanent order barring Hyundai and its U.S. unit from selling certain synchronous dynamic random access memory chips, or SDRAMs, in the United States.
